2019 is the twelfth consecutive year in which two B-Hunter type drones, provided by the 80th Belgian UAV squadron, are deployed off the coast in the North Sea to conduct surveillance missions.
Used by the Carrefour d’Information Maritime (CIM) on the Belgian coast from April to October, these drones patrol over anchorage areas in order to detect any discharge of waste water or oil for example. They are also used by customs and police forces to monitor all types of illegal activities such as illegal fishing, but also drug and human trafficking.
